Card and phrase of Sound object

When you edit the training field, you must assign a kind of sounds to the Sound object by the Card and Phrase properties. This section explains File name and Card-Phrase and Meaning of Card-Phrase.

File name and Card-Phrase

If the name of the sound data file that you want to use is Xnnnn.wav, the Card is X (one alphabet) and the Phrase is nnnn (number).

For example, if you want to use Footsteps, its file name is P0100.wav according to the List of sound data. In this case, the Card is P and the Phrase is 100.

Meaning of Card-Phrase

Card

One character of alphabet. The assignment is as follows.

  • P : The sound data for WR-AOTSVer. 2.10.
  • U : The sound data that user added.
  • A : The sound data for AOTS Ver. 1.0
  • B : Not used.

Phrase

Number of 0-9999. The assignment is as follows.

  • For Card P or U (the upper 2 of the 4 digits is classification and the lower 2 digits is serial number)
    • 00** : Vehicle
    • 01** : Pedestrian
    • 02** : Traffic signal
    • 03** : Facilities
    • 99** : Ambient sound
  • For Card A or B (the upper 3 of the 4 digits is classification and the lower 1 digit is serial number)
    • 000* : Vehicle
    • 001* : Pedestrian
    • 002* : Traffic signal
    • 003* : Facilities
    • 090* : Ambient sound

* The concept of Card and Phrase is based on the first AOTS Ver. 1.0 developed 2005 that used external recording devices to manage the sound data. The device had two memory card slots A and B, and the memory card could record multiple sound phrases. The XML for the training filed was designed for this sound management manner. Today, WR-AOTS Ver. 2.10 manages the sound data on the computer and records one phrase into one file, but is still using the same XML for the training filed as previous. Thus the concept of Card and Phrase is still remaining.

* WR-AOTSVer. 2.10 can transform the Phrase number for Card A to that of Card P automatically so as to be able to use the old training field data made for AOTS Ver. 1.0.

Specifications of sound file

The specifications of the sound data file are as follows.

  • Format : WAVE format (extention : .wav)
  • Sampling frequency : 44,100 Hz
  • Resolution : 16 bit
  • Channels : 1 (monaural)
  • Duration : approximately 30 s
  • Compression : none
End of Specifications of sound file.

Method to add sound data

You can use the sound that you recorded by yourself or extracted from CD as the sound data by the following procedure.

  1. Save your sound into the Sounds folder as the sound file formatted as Specifications of sound file.
  2. Give the file name to your sound file by the rule of Card and phrase of Sound object. In this case, the Card is U because your sound file is The sound data that user added. The 4-digits number for the Phrase must be assigned according to the rule without overlapping with existing numbers.
  3. When you edit the training field, you can use your sound by assigning U and the number to the Card and the Phrase of the Property value of Sound, respectively.
End of Method to add sound data.

Tips for management

  • The twelve Ambient sounds whose file names are P9900 - P9911.wav are used for the Ambient sounds from the distant places. These can be turned on/off by the Ambient checkbox. The kind, direction, and volume of the ambient sounds can be set at the Ambient setting window that will open when the Ambient setting button was pushed.
This figure shows checking the Ambient checkbox.
This figure shows the Ambient setting window. In the window, there are the Kind list, the Direction list, the Volume textbox, the Cancel button, and the OK button.
