研究内容

【実作業場面における認知状態の評価】
コンピュータを使った作業や自動車の運転など、実際の作業場面を対象として、作業者の注意や認知の状態を評価する研究を行っています。例えば、長時間の作業では疲労などの影響で集中力が低下しミスが増加します。また、自動車運転中のカーナビの操作などは主たる作業(運転)の妨害になることが知られています。このような作業場面における作業者の認知状態の変化を評価するための実験を行っています。その評価手法としては、主観評価や作業成績などの一般的な方法に加えて、脳波(事象関連脳電位)などの生体信号計測を用いています。生体信号計測による認知状態評価は、作業者に特定の反応を求める必要がありません。このため、本来計測したい作業を妨げることなく、作業者の状態を評価できるというメリットがあります。

【認知状態を推定する技術の開発】
ヒューマンエラーの研究や製品のユーザビリティの研究などにおいて、ヒトの認知状態を高時間解像度で推定する技術は極めて重要です。これまでから、認知状態を推定するための方法は数多く提案されていますが、現在の技術で十分という状況ではありません。特に、我々の行動の多くは本人でさえ意識することができない潜在的な認知過程に支えられており、この潜在的な認知過程を正確に反映した推定技術の開発が求められています。そこで、脳波の位相同期性やサッカディック眼球運動の軌道湾曲性など、新しい科学的知見に基づいて、認知状態を推定する技術の開発を目指しています。脳波や眼球運動軌道などは不随意的な生体信号であり、潜在的な認知過程も強く反映していると考えています。

【注意・認知機能の解明に関する研究】
ヒトは眼から入ってきた視覚情報をどのように認知しているのでしょうか?ヒトの視覚認知メカニズムについて、これまで多くの研究がなされてきていますが、まだ十分には解明されていません。多数の物体が存在する視覚環境において、我々はどのように全体像を把握(シーン知覚)し、どのように情報の選択(視覚的注意)を行い、どのように反応(行動制御)し、どのような情報を獲得(記憶・学習)するのか。その理解を進めるための実験的研究を行っております。特に、過去の経験によって獲得された記憶情報が次の行動制御に与える影響に興味があります。これまでの研究で、記憶に基づく非関連情報の抑制機能が適切な行動に役立っていることなどを明らかにしてきました。

【認知機能の個人差に関する研究】
我々の認知機能には大きな個人差があります。また、認知機能は、年齢、生活習慣(習慣的運動の有無など)、ストレスなどによっても変化します。例えば、定期的に有酸素運動を行っている人は、運動習慣がない人よりも、認知課題における成績が高いことが明らかになってきています。認知機能の個人差を生み出す要因を明らかにすることは、すべての人にやさしい製品や環境の開発、個人のQOLの向上などに大きな貢献ができると考えています。そこで、認知課題成績の個人差と脳活動の関係性を調べる実験的研究を行っています。その結果、認知課題の成績と脳内情報処理ネットワークの効率(脳部位間の情報伝達のスムーズさ)との間に関係性があることが明らかになってきました。

連携大学院

連携大学院とは、大学以外の研究機関の研究者が大学院の教員を兼務し、所属機関の研究環境を活用しながら研究指導等を行う大学院教育です。筑波大学大学院・人間総合科学学術院・ニューロサイエンス学位プログラムとの連携大学院制度のもと、大学院博士前期課程および後期課程の受け入れを行っています。入学は前期課程および後期課程のいずれからでも可能です。学生は授業を筑波大学で受講し、研究指導とゼミを産業技術総合研究所で受けることになります。学生の身分は筑波大学の大学院生であり、産業技術総合研究所には技術研修として来所します。課程修了時の学位は筑波大学から授与されます。

製品やサービスの開発において、ユーザの特性を科学的に理解することは重要です。そこで当研究室では事象関連脳電位を指標として、ヒトの注意、認知、感情に関わる研究を行なっています。事象関連脳電位は脳内情報処理を反映する脳波の電位変動であり、行動指標からだけでは観察することが難しい情報処理のタイミングや処理量を評価することができます。当研究室では、実験室内での基礎的な認知機能を調べる研究のみならず、シミュレータや実環境における製品やサービスの開発に資する研究も行なっています。
