Synopsis of Research
  • I am a neuroscientist and am interested in information processing underlying visual perception, motivation, and memory. My field is systems neuroscience and addresses how neurons analyze information in the external world and guide behavior using animal models. Our studies revealed that neurons in the temporal visual cortex represented information about whether it is a face or not earlier than information about facial expression and identity, and that an associative memory model reproduced the response dynamics of face-responsive neurons. Another study using a matched filter model suggested that short-term visual memory was stored at synaptic weights of temporal cortex neurons. I am also interested in applying computational models to understand the algorithm of neural processing underlying associative memory formation and motivation.
