Atmospheric Scanning Electron Microscope (ASEM)

The ASEM ClairScope™ machine is a new microscope developed by the Sato Lab in conjunction with JEOL. This instrument combines high resolution Scanning Electron Microscopy with the labeling capabilities of Optical Fluorescence microscopy under normal atmospheric conditions.

Using SiN film developed for the semiconductor industry, the new ASEM can image the same specimen with both OM and EM, in liquid medium. This microscope is widely adapted to biological and medical researches as well as mateial sciences.

We investigate the structure of proteins and molecular complexes at the molecular level, using a combination of Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM), and Optical Microscopy (OM).
