Research Overview

Research topics

  • Supercritical geothermal systems - characterization and modeling
  • Conventional and low-enthalpy hydrothermal systems
  • Numerical modeling of coupled THMC processes in geological systems

Software

geofluidprop

geofluidprop is a C library which is under developement for computing physical properties of geothermal fluids. Its R interface implemented some electrical conductivity models introduced in the following works.

  • Watanabe, N., Yamaya, Y., Kitamura, K., & Mogi, T. (2021). Viscosity-dependent empirical formula for electrical conductivity of H2O-NaCl fluids at elevated temperatures and high salinity. Fluid Phase Equilib., 549(113187), 113187. https://doi.org/10.1016/j.fluid.2021.113187
  • Watanabe, N., Mogi, T., Yamaya, Y., Kitamura, K., Asanuma, H., & Tsuchiya, N. (2022). Electrical conductivity of H2O-NaCl fluids under supercritical geothermal conditions and implications for deep conductors observed by the magnetotelluric method. OpenGeoSys

OpenGeoSys is an open-source numerical simulator for coupled THMC processes in porous and fractured media, developed by the OpenGeoSys community, with core development activities at the Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research (UFZ).
