The panels show optical imaging of the activity evoked
in the parahippocampal cortices and the dentate gyrus
by lateral olfactory tract stimulation.
Functional fluorescence changes encoded in "pseudo-
color" are superimposed on a bright-field image of the
isolated whole brain preparation. Stimulus intensity was
set to induce a late response in the medial entorhinal
cortex (EC): note the sequential activation of the lateral
EC (far left, left & right panels) and medial EC (far right
panel), and the lack of activity propagation to the peri-
rhinal cortex.
