Ioh Island, Ogasawara, Tokyo, Japan
There is no islander in this island because all of them were moved compulsory during the World War II. There is a base of the Japanese Self-Difence Forces now, and the government is still not permit the civilians landing except the days of the memorial service. This sand was picked up at a beach next to Mt.Suribachi (169m) that is the highest hill on this island. It is poorly sorted black sand/gravel (5mm or less in diameter), and it consists of andesite, feldspar, volcanic glasses, olivin and so on.
