Mont Saint Michel, Basse-Normandie, France
Mont Saint Michel was separated from the mainland by high tide level rising by fifteen meter, but a causeway that was built at the end of the 19th century prevented the tide from scouring the silt and sand. This is the material after washing the silt off. It is very fine, and you can see 1mm or less in diameter grains of chert or shale.
