The Pinnacles Desert (No.1), Western Australia, Australia

This yellow sand consists of well rounded grains of quartz.  The grain size is medium/very coarse (0.2-2.0mm in diameter) mixed with gravel (5mm or less in diameter).  The characteristic yellow color is caused by iron oxide.
