Shin-Namari Hot Springs (Toyosawa River), Hanamaki-city, Iwate, Japan

This is river sand of the Toyosawa River.  It is medium-sized sand (1.2mm or less in diameter).  It consists of weathering volcanic rocks. The grains are easy to be chipped, and well rounded whether it is on the upper stream of the river.
