This WWW page is provided just for users of RWC Music Database (RWC-MDB). Please do not link to this page. Please see RWC Music Database Home Page for the guide to the RWC Music Database (including how to obtain the database).

The following distribution files, which are not included in the distribution media (music CDs and/or DVD-ROMs), are provided just for the users of the RWC Music Database.

• Standard MIDI File (SMF)

  We prepared transcribed standard MIDI files (SMFs) for all 315 musical pieces. Given the corresponding audio signals, most of them were transcribed by ear. These were stored in SMF format 1 (multiple tracks) and conform to the GS format, which is a superset of GM (General MIDI) system level 1. Song lyrics are not stored in the SMFs and are provided as separate text files.

• Lyrics Text File

  Song lyrics are provided as text files. Japanese characters in these files are encoded in Japanese "Shift-JIS" code. Please note that these files do not have a uniform format.

• Detailed Information File

  Detailed information is provided as CSV (comma-separated values) files.

These files are considered to be a part of the RWC Music Database (RWC-MDB). Their conditions of use are the same as those for the audio signals provided on the distribution media. Only users who have submitted a signed Pledge and have received distribution media may download files from this WWW page.

• You will receive separate notification by e-mail of a "User ID" and "Password" needed for downloading these files. If you should encounter any problems on downloading, please notify us by e-mail at rwc-mdb-wg [at] m.aist.go.jp including information that identifies you as a user. We ask that the "User ID" and "Password" be managed carefully and not be passed to any third party.
• The redistribution of these files is generally not permitted. If excerpts of these files need to be placed on a WWW site for research purposes, please consult with us in advance at rwc-mdb-wg [at] m.aist.go.jp.
• [Obligatory reporting of use] (as described in Obtaining and Using RWC Music Database)
  
  • Please indicate clearly that the RWC Music Database has been used whenever reporting research results obtained using the database (in papers, publications, or derivative software). There are no particular stipulations on how such use is to be indicated, but a proper citation might be something like: "This research utilized the RWC Music Database (Classical Music)."
  • When referring to a particular musical piece or musical instrument for research use and publication, please use the piece/instrument number (e.g., RWC-MDB-P-2001 No. 28, RWC-MDB-I-2001 No. 01) as defined in the references.
  • We request that you provide us with details of all reports relating to research based on the database, including academic conference presentations, media coverage, exhibitions, etc. Please use the format provided in the usage report (see for example the sample completed report) and e-mail this report to the e-mail address given below:

    The contents of such reports will serve as a fundamental and important reference in developing similar databases in the future, and we ask that you kindly take the time to complete them.

1. The databases may only be used by the individual listed as the user and by members of the department or research organization with which the user is affiliated.
2. The databases may be used only for research purposes.
3. The databases, copies thereof, or data enabling the reproduction thereof may not be sold, leased, published or distributed to any third party without written permission from the RWC Music Database Administrator of the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (hereinafter, "the Administrator").
4. When research results obtained using the databases are publicly released (in the form of reports, publications, or derivative software), clear indication shall be given that the databases were used. In addition, information about this public release (bibliographical information on the academic conference presentation, information on the media coverage/exhibition, etc.) shall be reported to the Administrator.
5. Neither the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology nor the Administrator shall be held liable for any errors in the contents of the databases and damage arising from the use of the databases.
6. Any changes in the user's organization, affiliation, etc., shall be reported without delay to the Administrator and, if necessary, a revised Pledge submitted.
7. The Administrator may unilaterally modify the conditions of use for the databases.
8. All matters not set forth in this Pledge shall be discussed with the Administrator and good faith efforts made to resolve the matters.

The RWC Music Database is essentially distributed free of charge to promote advances in the field of music information processing. We would like to work together with users to make this database even more convenient for research. To this end, we would like to hear from you at rwc-mdb-wg [at] m.aist.go.jp if you have made any changes or corrections to these distribution files that may be useful for other users. Such changes will be described on this WWW page so that they can be shared with other users (the person responsible for the changes will be given credit).
