Professor Koichi Awazu graduated Keio University with a B.S. degree in Faculty of Applied

Chemistry. He received his Ph.D degree in Inorganic materials from Tokyo Institute of Technology.

From 1991 to 2001, he worked as a researcher with Electrotechnical Laboratory (ETL), Ministry

of International Trade and Industry (MITI), Japan. From 1996 to 1998, he spent sabbatical years

as an invited researcher in the group of Prof. John L. Brebner at Université de Montréal, Quebéc,

Canada. After returning to Electrotechnical Laboratory, his concern was shifted to the study of three

dimensional nano-engineering. From 2001 to 2002, Dr. Awazu became a director for electronic and

information technology at New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO),

Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) and planned seven new national projects in the field

of information technology. From 2002 to 2004, Dr. Awazu also works as a Professor at Institute for

Molecular science, Okazaki, Japan. Now, Dr. Awazu jointed Center for Applied Near-Field Optics

Research (CAN-FOR), National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST),

METI. Nano-photonics and nano-mechanics are added to his research field.
