Latest Infomation

I momentarily appeared on a TV program "Today's Close-up: Whether utilize or not geothetmal power, sleeping vast resources in Japan?" April 15, 2009, but the telop introduced me as a geothermal researcher without name.

I appeared on a TV program "Science Zero: Dig up sleeping energy geothermal !" June 27, 2009, and this time, the telop introduced me with my affiliation and name.

Likewise, geothermal development in Japan will soon be revived after the lost 10 years.

"GATE Day, Japan" will be held on August 5, 2009 as a symbolic event to jump to a new geothermal era. Do not miss the event.

Short Comment on the Current State

Geothermal power development in the world probably achieved 10 GW in its installed capacity in the year 2008. This was motivated by the new paradigm that the development of natural energy is one of the most reliable investments to the future towords the everlasting energy infratructure for the fossil fuel-free and carbon-free society in the global environmental era. However, Japan was only one exceptional geothermal potential country where geothermal power development was stagnant for the last deacade. This happened in 1997 just an entrance to the global environmental era when the Japanese Government excluded geothermal from "new energy", a category for politically protected energy with incentives. This treatment was revised only recently when geothermal was re-defined as "new energy" in April 2008. According to our recent assessment of high-temperature hydrothermal resources, Japan is the third largest potential country in the world. Geothermal development in Japan will gradually be reactivated hereafter.
