Usu volcano is one of the most active volcanoes in Japan.
There are 7 known eruptions in historical records (1663, 1769, 1822, 1853, 1910, 1943-45, 1977-78 A.D.) before the 2000 eruption.
In this volcano, dacitic to rhyolitic magma has erupted.
Plinian eruption, pyroclastic flow, and dome eruption are typical of the activities.
